Still remember AdBlue®? This product is an innovation that works by injecting synthetic urea liquid into vehicle exhaust gas. This urea then reacts with nitrogen oxide (NOx) and turns it into nitrogen and water, which are not harmful to the environment. So it’s true, AdBlue® is an offer of a solution to improve our air quality.
Not long ago, Rama Nugraha and Genta Ginanjar, AdBlue® manufacturers, stated that this product has become standard on many modern diesel vehicles. However, Rama and Genta remind us that it is important to understand that not all engines are compatible with this technology.
AdBlue®: Diesel Vehicles That Need It and Those That Don’t
Diesel vehicles with Euro 4, Euro 5, Euro 6, and newer emission standards generally require AdBlue®. Some old diesel vehicles do not require AdBlue®, such as those made before 2004 without an SCR system. The SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) system is generally not present in these vehicles.
Non-road vehicles, like small diesel engines in construction equipment and generators, may not require AdBlue® if emissions are low. These engines can operate without AdBlue® if their emissions meet the permitted limit.
Then some diesel vehicles are equipped with DPF systems to filter soot from exhaust gases. These DPF systems can work effectively without AdBlue® in some cases, with varying degrees of emission reduction effectiveness.
Vehicles that require AdBlue® are designed with an SCR system. The SCR system consists of several components, including the AdBlue® tank, AdBlue® pump, AdBlue® injector and SCR catalyst. The system works by injecting AdBlue® into the hot exhaust gas in front of the SCR catalyst.
Commercial vehicles like trucks and buses mainly use AdBlue® because they operate long distances and need to reduce NOx emissions significantly. These vehicles benefit from AdBlue® to meet strict emission regulations and improve environmental sustainability in transportation.
Modern diesel passenger cars, especially those made after the Euro 4 emission standard, usually have an SCR system. These cars generally require AdBlue® to reduce NOx emissions. The SCR system helps them comply with strict environmental regulations. AdBlue® plays a crucial role in maintaining low emission levels in these vehicles.
Industrial and construction diesel engines, such as power generators and heavy equipment, often have an SCR system and use AdBlue® to meet emission regulations in various countries.
